Upcoming Xbox Game Pass games
“Coming soon” 2022
Let’s dive into this, shall we? Thirsty Suitors — an interesting one to start us off. These will be shorter entries in general, but Thirsty Suitors isn’t making that easy — according to the game’s site, it encompasses a lot; “culture, relationships, family pressures, and expressing oneself” — in the middle of all that, we’ll also be fighting our exes, skateboarding, and cooking. Interested? It’s “coming soon…”
Beacon Pines is an adventure game which manages to be both cute and slightly unsettling — it’ll have us playing as both the main character of a book and as that book’s main narrator, Luka, as he sets out with his friends to uncover the mystery at the old warehouse of Beacon Pines. What’s more, we’ll be able to choose the path the story takes, and even go back and see what else could have happened. If you’re interested in learning more, check out our Beacon Pines interview!
Midnight Fight Express
Midnight Fight Express is, as you might have guessed, a fighting game. You play as Babyface, who has to head back into his old way of life to stop a full criminal takeover of his city, fighting waves of enemies as he goes. This one heads to Xbox Game Pass on August 23rd.
Commandos 3 – HD Remaster
Real-time tactics game Commandos 3 – HD Remaster should be coming to Xbox Game Pass on August 30th, and will see us fight our way through Stalingrad, Central Europe, and Normandy.
Immortality is an investigative FMV game from Telling Lies creator Sam Barlow. It’s about a film star, Marissa Marcell, who featured in three films that were never released. She goes missing after the last film, and we’ll be uncovering what happened to her. Immortality joins Xbox Game Pass on August 30th.
Train Sim World 3
Railway sim Train Sim World 3 joins Xbox Game Pass on September 6th, and if you played Train Sim World 2, you can bring the trains and routes you owned there into Train Sim World 3, which also features a new dynamic weather system.
Disney Dreamlight Valley
Disney Dreamlight Valley will be a free-to-play life-sim when it launches in full in 2023, but Xbox Game Pass members can play its Early Access version from September 6th. We’ll be working to help a host of Disney and Pixar characters to recover their memories and to rebuild their village, while taking part in everything from fishing and cooking to customising our home.
Grounded has been in Game Preview for a while now, and joins Xbox Game Pass in full on September 27th, meaning you can play out the story in its entirety. The devs also promise “a lot of surprises, a lot of mysteries.”
2D Gothic action game Moonscars joins Xbox Game Pass on September 27th and sees us play as Grey Irma, whose sole aim is to battle through a dark and desperate world to find the Sculptor.
Exploration and survival game Valheim has proven hugely popular on PC, but it does mess with the order of the list here — it comes to PC Game Pass this fall and to console and Xbox Game Pass in early spring 2023, although it doesn’t have a specific release date for either.
A Plague Tale: Requiem
Stealth action-adventure game A Plague Tale: Requiem launches into Xbox Game Pass on October 18th, and sees Amicia and Hugo travelling south to try and live a new life — before long, however, the waves of rats return…
Persona 5 Royal
Gigantic JRPG Persona 5 Royal joins Xbox Game Pass on October 21st, and includes all previously released DLC for free (which is a lot). We also know that this new version will be the best yet, running at 60fps on Xbox Series X.
First-person horror game Scorn joins Xbox Game Pass on October 21st, and promises to give us nightmares with its grotesque, fleshy, organically-alive world.
High on Life
High on Life, Rick & Morty creator Justin Roiland’s “triple-I game,” looks to combine first-person shooter elements with action-adventure themes and Metroidvania mechanics. It is set to join Xbox Game Pass on October 25th.
Another terrifying game to add to the list is survival horror Signalis, which launches into Xbox Game Pass on October 27th. Its retro inspirations and stylings should delight older players who grew up with things like the early Alone in the Dark games.
Roguelite co-op game Gunfire Reborn doesn’t have a specific date, but will join Xbox Game Pass in October. We’ll play through different acts, all with their own biomes and enemies, and look for chests to level up before facing each act’s boss.
Turn-based historical strategy game Humankind is currently the only lonely entry under November 2022, and joins Xbox Game Pass on November 4th, and sees us exploring and advancing 60 historical cultures. Here’s hoping it doesn’t ship with unobtainable achievements like the PC version did…
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
Adapting the co-op formula of Vermintide for the 40K universe, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will see a staggered release and Game Pass arrival date. It’ll first be hitting PC this November, with the console version to follow soon after — we’ll update once we have an actual date or time frame.
Hello Neigbor 2
Hello Neighbor 2 joins Xbox Game Pass on December 6th. The stealth-horror game continues directly after the first Hello Neighbor and has us searching for the missing Mr Peterson.
Soccer Story was recently announced as an open-world RPG where you fight to save soccer and bring balance to the world. Soccer Story looks awesome but it also messes with the list a bit — it comes to Xbox Game Pass this year but hasn’t given a release window, so in revenge we have filed it as Q4 until we learn more.
Now, the rest of these entries haven’t yet got specific release dates, but have all so far been filed under Q4 2022. First, we have narrative adventure game Pentiment, which launches into Xbox Game Pass this autumn, and sees us caught up in a series of murders in the 16th century.
Slime Rancher 2
Slime Rancher 2 launches into Early Access with Xbox Game Pass this fall, and has us continuing Beatrix LaBeau’s story as she travels to Rainbow Island. To find out more, check out our interview with director Nick Popovich!
Puzzle game Maquette launched for PlayStation last year, and joins Xbox Game Pass this winter, when it will mess with your perspective while telling a love story.
Action-adventure game Solar Ash also launched for PlayStation last year, and comes to Xbox Game Pass this winter. We’ll be exploring the surreal world of Solar Ash, fighting enemies, and looking to solve the mysteries of this cryptic land.
Sci-fi adventure Somerville has been cryptic when it comes to sharing details — all we know is that it takes place after a catastrophe and involves some sinister-sounding “visitors” to Earth. It’ll launch into Xbox Game Pass later this year.
Similarly, we don’t know much about unsettling shooter game Atomic Heart; it won’t even give up its release window, instead telling us that it’ll launch for Xbox Game Pass in #######ber. Given that developer Mundfish is based in Russia, there’s a fair chance this crazy game may yet slip into 2023, though.
Competitive brawler Party Animals also launches into Xbox Game Pass some time this year, and sees us (the party animals in question) fighting across a number of game modes and using everything from plungers to lollipops as weapon.
First half of 2023
Up first for next year, we’ve got two biggies: firstly, Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG Starfield, which was delayed into 2023. It’ll launch for Xbox Game Pass during the first half of the year, and will have us working for an organisation known as Constellation, and exploring the Settled Systems.
Vampire-slaying co-op shooter Redfall was likewise delayed to the first half of 2023, at which point we’ll begin killing the vampires who have taken over an island, and the cultists who serve them.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox
Metroidvania adventure The Last Case of Benedict Fox, which lists its inspirations as including everything from jazz music to Lovecraftian themes, is set to launch into Xbox Game Pass in spring 2023. We’ll be using our bond with a demon to investigate the minds of the dead in order to solve the murder of a couple and the disappearance of their child.
Racing sim Forza Motorsport has also been given a spring 2023 release window, and according to the devs, it’ll be “the most technically advanced racing game ever made.”
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
Action-RPG Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty should hit Xbox Game Pass in early 2023, when it will introduce us to a dark fantastical version of the Later Han Dynasty, along with all of its assorted demons…
Lightyear Frontier soars onto Xbox Game Pass in spring 2023. We’ll be farming on an alien planet in Lightyear Frontier, which mashes together base-building, crafting, discovering alien flora and fauna, and more.
Bounty Star: The Morose Tale of Graveyard Clem
Here, we get to the more mysterious portion of the list; all these entries are set to join Xbox Game Pass in 2023, but haven’t specified release windows yet. First up is Bounty Star: The Morose Tale of Graveyard Clem, an action game where we play as Clementine McKinney as she fights her way across a post-post apocalyptic desert in a rather snazzy mech.
Action-strategy game Minecraft Legends was a recent announcement, and is set to join the Xbox Game Pass library next year, when we’ll fight to defend the Overworld from the piglins.
Little Witch in the Woods
Little Witch in the Woods is already available in Game Preview with Xbox Game Pass, but if you’ve been holding off until the game launches in full, you’ll need to wait until some time in 2023. Little Witch in the Woods is a charming pixel adventure game where you train to become a fully-fledged witch, and consists of a mix of crafting, exploration, puzzle-solving, and life-sim elements — for more on that, check out our Little Witch in the Woods interview.
Retro sci-fi 2D adventure Replaced is also set to launch into Xbox Game Pass in 2023. We’ll play as Reach, an AI trapped in a human body, and will explore and fight our way through Phoenix City. The pixel art here is some next-level stuff…
Ereban: Shadow Legacy
Ereban: Shadow Legacy launches into Xbox Game Pass next year, too. In this stealth platforming game, we’re Ayana, who, armed with mysterious shadow powers, is exploring a dying world to investigate the megacorporation Helios and the truth about her long-lost ancestors.
Ravenlok comes from the creators of Echo Generation, and revolves around Ravenlok herself, who tumbles through a mirror into a fantastical world. It’s a dark fairytale, presided over by the terrifying Caterpillar Queen, and will launch into Xbox Game Pass in 2023.
Cosmic puzzle adventure game Cocoon is also set to be released with Xbox Game Pass next year. We’ll be leaping between worlds — which all exist within orbs that you can carry on your back — and will manipulate them to solve puzzles. Sounds suitably mind-bending.
Survival game Ark II is also set for 2023, and will star Vin Diesel as Santiago and Auli’i Cravalho as his daughter Meeka. Expect it to expand heavily on the scale and scope of its popular dino-packed predecessor.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is a fantasy action-RPG set to launch into Xbox Game Pass in 2023, and seems to have us fighting both against the dead and the gods themselves.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
Suikoden spiritual successor Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes also launches into Xbox Game Pass some time next year. It’s a JRPG featuring a “traditional” six-character battle system with a mix of 2D sprites and 3D backgrounds. Companion title Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is already available with Xbox Game Pass, in case you fancy getting a taste of the world and characters early.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Asymmetrical horror game The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is also set to arrive some time during 2023. Fans of Evil Dead: The Game and Dead by Daylight will probably want to keep a close eye on this one…
Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden
While Persona 5 Royal is set to join Xbox Game Pass in October this year, JRPG Persona 3 Portable is set for some time in 2023. We’ve also bundled Persona 4 Golden into this entry, as it too has a vague 2023 release window.
Inkulinati is the first on this final section of the list: those that have no release window yet at all. The turn-based strategy game has you waging war over the pages of medieval manuscripts — if you’d like to know more, check out our Inkulinati interview!
Flock is a colourful, laid-back multiplayer co-op game where you soar contentedly through the world and gather up creatures to add to your herd. It looks all kinds of beautiful, but sadly doesn’t have a release window yet.
Deathloop launched as a timed exclusive for PlayStation in 2021 — we know that Deathloop’s PS5 exclusivity will last “at least” until September 2022, so we could perhaps hope to see it arrive for Xbox soon after that. As a first-party-developed title, it’s a shoo-in for the service as and when it does manage to break the loop and find its way onto Xbox
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Hollow Knight: Silksong is the long-awaited sequel to Hollow Knight, so it’s great to hear that it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch, even though we don’t have a specific release date yet. If you like Ori but wish the games were darker and more challenging, keep an eye on this (and go play the original in the meantime, it’s ace).
Cassette Beasts is a Pokémon-inspired RPG monster-battling game that lets you combine those monsters into new creatures. It’s set to join Xbox Game Pass on day one, retro vibes and all.
First-person sci-fi horror game Routine was announced back in 2012, and then seemed to vanish until it was re-revealed back in June of this year. It’s set to join Xbox Game Pass at launch, whenever that launch may be.
Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl brings first-person shooter action to Xbox Game Pass at launch, when we’ll be exploring a post-nuclear open world. Developer GSC Game World is based in Ukraine and recently shared an emotional video diary explaining its situation — this one might be a little way off still, but just stay safe and take your time with it, folks.
Ara: History Untold
Ara: History Untold was announced during the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase as a historical turn-based strategy game which will join PC Game Pass at launch.
Finally, we have a little section entirely devoted to those Riot Games titles which are coming to Game Pass, because we didn’t really know what else to do with them — they’re all free-to-play already, but through Game Pass, all Champions will be unlocked for free. League of Legends and Valorant will be available on PC, League of Legends: Wild Rift will be available on mobile, and Legends of Runeterra and Teamfight Tactics will both be available for PC and mobile.
So, what do you think? Anything on there catch your eye, or take you by surprise? What do you think of the gaming horizon for Xbox Game Pass? Let us know what you think in the comments!
