Chen Liu, MD, PhD, Chair of Yale Pathology, announced He (Peter) Wang, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Pathology, as Director of the newly established Cardiovascular Pathology section in the Department of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine.
Dr. Liu explained it is a good opportunity to establish a unique Cardiovascular Pathology section as it will create new momentum related to translational research and clinical services.
“Peter is well qualified for this position. He completed a formal Fellowship in Cardiovascular Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and he has a successful translational program in vascular pathology research,” Dr. Liu said. “This new structure will certainly allow more robust clinical service as well as for additional translational and basic science research in this area.”
Dr. Wang earned his medical degree at China Medical University and his PhD in experimental pathology at McGill University. He completed his residency in pathology in the University of Michigan Health System and completed fellowships in Surgical Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University and in Cytopathology at the University of Pennsylvania.
At Yale, Dr. Wang routinely interacts with cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, serving as the lead pathologist in a weekly heart failure/pathology clinical management meeting. Dr. Wang collaborates with several investigators at Yale Cardiac Medicine, Vascular Surgery and Vascular Biology and Therapeutics group. Dr. Wang is also a member of the Yale Tobacco Center of Regulatory Science and at the recent annual meeting of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), he presented on, “The Influence of Race on Electronic Cigarette Use and Cardiovascular Disease .”
At national/international level, Dr. Wang serves as Governor of the Society of Cardiovascular Pathology 2019-2022, now working as coordinator for the society’s monthly e-journal club. Dr. Wang is also the recipient of the Award of Merit from the Society of Cardiovascular Pathology 2022.
