The biggest new video games releasing the week of 8/1/22 • AIPT

The summer of gaming is in full swing! The year started off fantastically, with major releases like Pokemon Legends: Arceus to Horizon Forbidden West to Elden Ring all releasing in early 2022, and that fantastic trend looks to continue through the summer months with bombastic Triple A games and indie darlings releasing left and right.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

South of the Circle (8/3)

Originally released for iOS a few years ago, South of the Circle arrives on consoles this week. It’s a narrative-focused game where you follow Peter as he fights for survival in Antarctica after a plane crash. During his struggle, the game flashes back to his time at university during the 1960’s Cold War where he falls in love with a fellow lecturer, Clara. South of the Circle tells a beautiful and emotional story, and you can check out my full review of the game’s console version later this week.

Hindsight (8/4)

Similar to South of the Circle, hindsight is a narrative adventure game with simple gameplay and a simple art style. The Annapurna-published game has you taking control of an elderly woman as she reminisces on her life. “What if the physical objects of everyday life… were actual windows to the past?” hindsight asks, and by interacting with those objects you’ll explore her memories and view “unseen” futures.

Turbo Golf Racing (8/4)

Thought all this week had was quit, narrative-based games? Think again! Turbo Golf Racing hits PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Game Pass on Thursday. If you’ve played Rocket League (which you should — it’s free), then Turbo Golf Racing will feel familiar. It pits eight players against one another to race a golf ball through an obstacle-filled course and into the hole. Simple, yet destructive once cars and power-up abilities are thrown into the fray.
